Philippine National Day Message

The US-Philippines Society congratulates the government and people of the Philippines, who mark the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of independence from Spanish colonial rule on June 12. The Society recognizes that following a complicated and troubled historical beginning with the Treaty of Paris that granted the Philippines to the United States, visionary leaders on both sides established the basis of a strong and mutually supportive relationship, rooted on the principle of Philippine independence, that evolved between the Philippines and the United States over the years that followed.

Today, those ties have never been stronger and more broad-based, as our two countries have joined with like-minded partners in reaffirming with concrete actions a commitment to a rules-based international order, preserve regional peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, promote economic growth and development, and forge cooperation on meeting the complex 21st century global challenges ahead.

The US-Philippines Society also joins with friends in the Philippines and America, together with members of the vibrant Filipino-American community, in celebrating this Independence Day, mindful of their vital contribution in promoting mutual understanding and expanding people-to-people ties, a true bedrock of the enduring relationship.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
