In Memoriam Virgilio “Baby” Dalupan (October 19, 1923 – August 17, 2016)

With condolences, the US-Philippines Society shares the news of the passing of Virgilio “Baby” Dalupan, at 92, the legendary coach of Philippine basketball. Having led his players to 52 championships, he earned the titles “The Maestro” and “Winningest Coach.”

Coach Baby Dalupan’s place in Philippine basketball history and lore will remain a cherished model for Philippine basketball players and fanatics for years to come. His leadership, wisdom, humanity, solid sportsmanship, love for the game, and vision are hallmarks. And he understood and nurtured the Philippine-American linkage that the game represents in the Philippines and abroad. That is another aspect of the model “winningest-coach” legacy that makes him such a special Philippine sports hero.

The wake will be held at the College Chapel of the Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Avenue, Loyola Heights, Quezon City, on:

Friday, August 19
        4 PM to 11 PM
Saturday-Sunday, August 20-21
        10 AM to 11 PM
Monday-Tuesday, August 22-23
         6 PM to 11 PM

A public memorial will be held at 9 AM on Wednesday, August 24 at the Ateneo University’s Church of the Gesu. A private interment ceremony will follow. The family encourages donations in lieu of flowers towards athletic scholarships for the Ateneo de Manila University or the University of the East.
