Formal Dinner Celebrating President Marcos’ Historic Summit Visit

Led by Co-chairs Ambassador John D. Negroponte and Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, and in partnership with the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC, the US-Philippines Society, hosted a formal dinner in honor of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. at the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC capping the successful and historic summit visit of the President. Following welcome remarks by the co-chairs, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo welcomed the Marcos visit and reported on the first Presidential Trade Mission to the Philippines in March and the upcoming Indo-Pacific Business Forum jointly hosted by the U.S. and the Philippines in May 2024.

In his remarks, President Marcos thanked Secretary Raimondo, U.S. Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro, Philippine House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Senator Francis Tolentino, cabinet members, Ambassador Romualdez and US-Philippines Society co-chairs. The President acknowledged the presence of former U.S. Ambassadors to the Philippines Thomas Hubbard, Frank Wisner, Kristie Kenney, and Sung Kim, along with John Negroponte and current Ambassador MaryKay Carlson.

President Marcos described today’s vibrant and broad-based U.S.-Philippines relationship, saying that “we are engaged at every facet of human contact in every way as family, friends and co-workers, and as allies. So we have mutual concern to promote the well-being of our peoples to further deepen the ties between our two countries.”
