Join us for a discussion on what was accomplished at COP28, what is ahead for the Philippines, and opportunities for US-Philippines cooperation. From November 30 through December 12, 2023, COP28:UN Climate Change Conference hosted this year by the United Arab Emirates in Dubai, brings together delegates from around the world to discuss and agree on ways to address climate crisis including limiting global temperature rise, helping vulnerable communities and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

The Philippines is among the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change, with impacts already felt through extreme weather events, sea level rise, and threats to biodiversity. These natural events turn into various degrees of disaster in terms of lives loss and property damage when preparedness, response and assistance to communities and businesses are not provided in a timely manner.

Following COP 28, Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga who leads the Philippine delegation and USAID Assistant Administrator for the Bureau of Asia Michael Schiffer will share their perspectives on major COP28 climate policy decisions and opportunities for the Philippines and United States to work together on climate resilience.

Private sector leaders PDRF President Rene Meily and TBD Economics President Tracy Rouleau will discuss disaster response and recovery, adaptation, and risk mitigation tools and techniques based on empirical data and scientific findings in the Philippine context.
